What is Megaderm®?

Megaderm has been developed to optimize the synergistic effects of Omega 6 and Omega 3. It is an Essential Fatty acid supplement for dogs and cats.

How does Megaderm differ from EFA –Z?

Megaderm is a more focused option to consider for managing pruritus. Megaderm contains a 5:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3. There is expert opinion supporting that this is the appropriate ratio. Much more Omega 3 is required than in EFA-Z to influence the inflammatory cascade. EFA-Z has a ratio of 40:1 Omega 6 to Omega 3 so it is more focused on keeping coat quality maintained and preventing seborrhoea.

How does Megaderm® influence inflammatory skin conditions?

Megaderm limits the outcome of the inflammatory processes by modifying EFA metabolism in the skin. This influences the metabolic pathways of Poly-unsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that are involved in the inflammatory cascade. Activity is achieved by depriving the inflammatory process of its initial substrate (the arachidonic acid, W 6), inhibiting its potential metabolic conversions, and diverting the metabolic pathways towards fatty acids that will produce anti-inflammatory (or less inflammatory) mediators instead of pro-inflammatory mediators.

Why use Omega 6 and Omega 3?

The synergistic effects of W 6 and W 3 EFAs are beneficial as well in restoring skin integrity and providing an anti-inflammatory effect, by the control of PUFAs metabolic pathways.

Omega 6 are well described for maintaining good coat quality by maintaining water balance and cell integrity, modifying cell proliferation, and maintaining lustre whilst minimising seborrhoea.

In contrast Omega 3 has limited specific coat quality activity but is a key influencer of the inflammatory cascade.

Directions for Use:

 (for 1L bottle, follow directions on pack)
1. Use 4mL sachet for pets up to 10kg,
Use 8mL sachet for pets 10 to 20kg
Use 2 x 8mL sachets for pets over 20kg.
2. Give once a day for dermatological conditions or once every other day for maintaining healthy skin and coat.
3. Cut along perforation.
4. Squeeze contents onto your pet’s usual food and mix through.
